Industry Involvement
Our family has welcomed the opportunity to participate in all facets of the cattle industry.
The family is active in the local, state, regional, and national beef and Angus organizations. J.L. and James have both served on the Board of Directors and as President of the Central Kentucky Angus Association (CKAA). J.L. was a founding member of CKAA, and all family members are shareholders in that corporation. Evelyn was a long time member of the CKAA Auxiliary. James currently serves on the Kentucky Angus Board of Directors. He has chaired the Promotion and Sweepstakes Committees. J.L. and James have been longtime delegates to the Annual Meeting of the American Angus Association. In 2003 J.L. received the Historic Herd Awards from the American Angus Association and the Kentucky Angus Association for over 50 years of breeding Angus cattle. In 2009 J.L. and Evelyn received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Kentucky Angus Association.
The family is a member of the Lincoln County Cattleman’s Association, Kentucky Cattleman’s Association (KCA), and National Cattleman’s Beef Association (NCBA). Every year at the KCA Annual Convention we participate with a booth promoting the annual production sale. The family has hosted a tour stop on the Kentucky Angus Tour and the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce Ag Day. The family also hosted the 2008 Lincoln County Cattlemen’s Farmer-Lender Field Day.
The family has had numerous articles and information published about the operation. These include:
April 2008, Cow Country News; publication of the Kentucky Cattleman’s Association
We understand the main focus of the Angus breed is to produce bulls for the commercial sector. We participate in all marketing channels available to us and our fellow commercial producers. We have sold the lower end of our registered weanlings and commercial steers in the CPH-45 sales. In 2006 we did carcass testing on our herd sire, B/R Fastrack 415. In 2008 we joined the Beef Connection, which is a Kentucky based company that helps producers put together load lots to send to western feedlots. We now send cattle to feedlots in Kansas so that we can receive carcass and performance data. We use this data to shape our future breeding decisions. Participation, whether at the local, state, or national level, is an integral part of our operation.
